June 13, 2025 – Taman Bacaan Pelangi remains committed to improving children’s access to quality reading materials and fostering a love of reading from an early age. This commitment was marked by the inauguration of its 261st Child-Friendly Library at SDN 04 Batu Putih on Gili Asahan Island, West Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

The program is the result of a collaboration between Taman Bacaan Pelangi and Face This, a non-profit organization that works with children from underserved communities and international artists to transform children’s drawings into clothing designs. The proceeds from these collaborations are then used to support educational development in partner schools.

Prior to the inauguration, teachers and parents participated in library management training to ensure the library could be used effectively. The inauguration ceremony was marked by a read-aloud session led by Ms. Maya and attended by all the students.

A total of 553 children’s books are now available to the 15 students at SDN 04 Batu Putih. In addition to independent reading, students will also participate in regular reading sessions with their respective homeroom teachers to help develop enjoyable and sustainable reading habits.

“I am very happy to see that our children can now enjoy engaging picture books. I believe these books will have a positive impact on our students,” said Ibu Novi, one of the three teachers at SDN 04 Batu Putih on Gili Asahan Island.

Through this collaboration, Taman Bacaan Pelangi hopes that the library will serve as a first step toward creating a richer reading environment and nurturing children’s love of books and reading.
