Taman Bacaan Pelangi is thanking “Drive Books, Not Cars” for the great initiative as a mean to support the libraries that we set up for the kids in Flores, NTT.

During Ramadhan, “Drive Books, Not Cars” puts more than 40 drop-off boxes in different spots around Jakarta, including in 25 Starbucks outlets around Sudirman area, Kinokuniya bookstores, Blitz Megaplex cinemas, the US Embassy, the Australian Embassy, and many more. During Ramadhan, people can donate children books (in Indonesian language, English language, bilingual) and English novels and put the books into the drop-off boxes nearby their location. The children books would be donated directly to Taman Bacaan Pelangi to set up more libraries in Flores, and hopefully other parts of Eastern Indonesia, while the English novels would be sold during the “Car Free Day” on Sept 11th, 2011. The proceeds of the book sale would be donated for Sahabat Anak and Taman Bacaan Pelangi. Sahabat Anak would use the fund to give out scholarship for street kids in Jakarta.

What a great initiative! In 1 month, “Drive Books, Not Cars” has successfully collect more than 3,000 English novels and 2,000 children books! Wow!! And today, “Drive Books, Not Cars” participated in the “Car Free Day” and opened their “One Day Only Book Store” at eX Open Space.

The book sale got positive response from the public. People talked about it on twitter. The “shop” was even visited by Sandiaga Uno and his “Berlari untuk Berbagi” gang 🙂 who showed their support by buying a lot of books from the “Drive Books, Not Cars”. Whoa!! Thank you, “Berlari untuk Berbagi”!

At the end of the day, “Drive Books, Not Cars” raised around Rp 31mio from the book sale today. Yayyy!!! On behalf of Taman Bacaan Pelangi, we thanked “Drive Books, Not Cars” and all the volunteers for the big support and also the great help in doing this initiative.

You guys rock!!! 🙂
